Title of the page
The title of a web page should be descriptive and explain the contents of the page well. The title giving the surfer an idea of the contents and will also give a visiting search engine spider an idea of the page and its contents.
H1, Bold, Italics
Remember to have your main keywords once in an Hx tag, once in bold and then once in ITALICS, this should show the search engine crawler that these are important words/phrases for the page, so in turn the crawler will make the assumption that the keywords ( for example : internet blogging )are important for a visitor.
Content
You must always try to have an acceptable amount of descriptive text to explain what the page is about, don’t rely on the title of the page. You should aim to have your keyword in the text as much as you can, with it still being comfortable to read. This is known as keyword density.
Anchor text
Anchor text is what we call text links. You should always try and have all text links as descriptive keywords. When a spider follows the link to your page it should have an understanding of the content. Anchor text is a great way of improving your rankings on competitive keywords.
Domain and the URL
If you have – in between your keywords in your domain name it will act as a space in between words. So if a search engine user were to search for “high-grade-biscuits” and I had an internet blogging domain name of high-grade-biscuits.com then I would have a better chance of getting a higher place in the results page than highgradebiscuits.com due to the – being used. The actual URL of a page can influence the results as well, for instance:
Page submission
Submit the root page to all the big search engines on the internet such as Google, Yahoo, MSN. It will take them a while until they crawl your internet blogging site fully but be patient. Many directories online exist and find one that fits the theme of your site and submit the root URL, again this may take a while but be patient.
Fresh content
Google loves fresh content. They have a fairly new spider that they call the freshbot, it crawls the web daily looking for new/updated pages and sites. When it crawls your internet blogging website, it will then list the page at the top of their index for those sites keywords. It will stay there for a few days, if the page was just an updated version of what is already in the results it will revert back to the old version and drop back to it’s old position, if the page is brand new then it will drop completely from the index, until the next full update when it should take a permanent place in the results.
Tracking
Find a good web statistic plugin. This thing will let you know what search engine spiders are visiting your site, what keywords are being used to find your site. Your internet blogging would be a lot easier. The referrers that direct users to your site, and of course how many hits/page views you are getting.
